Everytime I hear about a song, that people think is good. I download it before i buy the CD.
So I was looking for that song, and after a lot of downloads, with the wrong artist i finally found the song sunged by Beth . So now i have it (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ..
If anyone want it, send me a PM with your mail , and I'll see what i can do ;D ..

By the way , it's good ;D ..

QUOTE (outtathistown @ Apr 21 2006, 09:28 PM) *
"Just my opinion, but I don't think she fits here .... the other voices better suit the songs .... Beth's doesn't."
our opinions are why we should all be thankful there isn't some committee somewhere deciding what music we get to listen to (short of what the big media conglomerates try to do, anyway), (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Vive la difference!!
we may disagree on whether her voice is well-suited for jazz renditions, but we completely agree that it would be awesome for beth to do an album of blues classics. that would kick some serious ass. think i've been thinking and saying that occasionally for the past couple of years. funny -- even though i enjoyed her on the les paul album, i did not feel that the song and the prominence of the guitar (yes, I KNOW about les paul model guitars) was that great a fit on that particular compilation when taken as a whole. not saying that to sound contrary, just my opinion.
any other opinionated folks out there??

Yeah, she should, and most certainly could, do great versions of some blues and blues/rock classics .....
And don't get me wrong on the jazz thing .... when I heard her song, I figured she did a great job .... but then I heard the other singers and just think their voices suite the jazz mood better. But Beth remains Beth, meaning she can do just about anything!!
Hey ... maybe I should say, Beth made that jazz song her own, while the others just sounded like 'copies' ..... (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

There so many songs I hear every day that make me think .... what if Beth would sing that one .... (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

OK, gave it a spin as well today and ...... doesn't do me much.
Beth is great off course, but in that jazz surrounding she sounds a bit 'sharp/nasal' compared to the other singers. Just my opinion, but I don't think she fits here .... the other voices better suit the songs .... Beth's doesn't.

I wish someone asks her to do some really great classic blues tunes .... she would be awesome doing that. (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

just to add a different viewpoint, this is one of the all-time great billie holiday songs that i wouldn't really care to hear covered by most anyone but beth. i can't wait to hear it when the u.s. album is released.

Artist: Billie Holiday
Song: I gotta right to sing the blues
Harold Arlen / Ted Koehler

I gotta right to sing the blues
I gotta right to moan inside
I gotta right to sit and cry
Down around the river
A certain man in this little town

Keeps draggin' my poor heart around
All I see for me is misery

I gotta right to sing the blues
I gotta right to moan inside
I gotta right to sit and cry
Down around the river
A certain man in this little town

Soon that deep blue sea
Will be callin' me
It must be love say what you choose
I gotta right to sing the blues
I gotta right to sing the blues

I gotta right to moan and cry
I gotta sit and sigh

Down around the river
Soon that deep blue sea
Will be callin' me

It must be love say what you choose
I gotta right to sing the blues

There's nothing left for me
I'm full of misery
I gotta right to sing the blues

Review in 'P-Magazine' (OK, I know how this sounds in English, but relax, it is NOT a dirty magazine (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ), but ....... NO MENTION OF BETH!! They do mention names like Jamie Cullum, Lizz Wright, Madeleine Peyroux ... and some Dutch chicks like Trijntje Oosterhuis and Laura Fygi (she Dutch??).
Seems that also the producer and most musicians are Dutch as well.

General comment was "Not another Toots milestone in Jazz, but the perfect soundtrack for a barbeque."
Got 4 'p's, which is a very high score (like 80%) .... but off course they do not dare otherwise because it's Toots. (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

What saddens me is that Beth's performance didn't seem to be noticed by the guy who did the review ... DAMN!! She just doesn't catch on here. (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) (IMG:http://bethhart.com/bethboard/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
